A very rare visitor to Sail Rock!
A very rare visitor appeared briefly at Sail Rock today.
Instructor Marcel Waldis was incredibly surprised and fortunate to spot a small, probably sub-adult, Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) swimming on the West side of the rock at a depth of around 15m.A small Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas) makes a very rare appearance at Sail Rock
Although not considered common in local waters, Green and Hawksbill (Eretmochelys Imbricata) Turtles can occasionally be seen at more protected, shallow areas such as those around Koh Tao and Angthong Marine Park.
Around Koh Phangan, sea turtles can also be spotted at Mae Haad/Koh Ma and Haad Yao on occasion.
Thanks to Marcel for providing a photograph of his brief encounter. Unfortunately, as it was so unexpected, he didn't have time to change his camera settings, but it was fine for making a positive identification.
