Tag: The Ocean Dragon Dive Boat

Welcome to the Ocean Dragon, purchased and refitted by The Dive Inn in April 2013.

This traditional Thai vessel was converted from its previous life as a fishing trawler into a fully customised dive boat capable of catering for up to 40 divers (including staff).

Unlike vessels which have been relocated from Thailand's west coast, and beyond, The Ocean Dragon was built specifically to deal with wind and waves conditions here in the Gulf of Thailand.

The main tank area is located at the spacous front deck of the boat, with some smaller tank racks at the aft end that can be utilised on busier days.

Meals, snacks and hot and cold drinks are served from a large food counter which is situated in front of the captain's cabin.

The relatively large bathroom is towards the rear of the main deck, just behind the engine room and galley, and is easily large enough to change in and out of wet clothes.

The upper deck is furnished with small tables and soft cushions and is ideal for relaxing during the trip.

Mother of Dragons..!!

Fern, owner of The Dive Inn on-board her new "baby", the Ocean Dragon after the Monk's blessing.

This is just about as far as Fern ever gets on her boat as she tends to get seasick just looking over the pier..!!

Back in the water for final modifications

The Ocean Dragon was moved from dry dock back into the water on completion of the hull, propeller and anti-fouling paintwork.

From here work continued on the remaining structural modifications above the waterline.

Work begins on the main tank racks and benches

During her first major refit in April 2013, it was critical to get the tank racks and benches made to the correct height, width, tank spacing, etc.

The following year we added some extra racks towards the aft end of the boat, but fortunately the main racks turned out to be perfect.

The food counter in front of the captain's cabin was also being built in this photo.
