Tag: Flagfin Shrimp Goby (Mahidolia mystacina)

A goby species i only recently found in Chaloklum Bay, Koh Phangan (which, so far, is the only place i've found it).

According to the reference books, this is the female Flagfin Shrimpgoby (Mahidolia mystacina). Apparently, the male has a higher, more pointed dorsal fin, but i haven't found one yet.

It seems the Flagfin Shrimp Goby (Mahidolia mystacina) comes in a variety of different shades, ranging from a pale beige colour to a very dark brown.

The strange thing about the individual seen here with its "partner" Pistol (Alpheid) Shrimp, is the apparent lack of a neon blue spot at the rear of the dorsal fin.
