Tag: Shortnose Boxfish (Ostracion Nasus)

The Shortnose Boxfish (Ostracion Nasus), is a shy, ellusive member of the Boxfish family found in local waters. It grows to a maximum length of around 30cm and is distinguished by its concave snout profile with a small "bump" above the mouth.

As with all Boxfish, its skin consists of hard, hexagonal shaped, plate-like scales. These plates are covered with small black spots towards the front half of the body, with the plates becoming gradually a more solid grey/brown colour towards the tail.
