Red Weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) complete their nest building with silk!

A couple of days after first photographing the Red Weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) colony building their nest (possibly one of many), i decided to check on their progress.

This single Red Weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) quickly noticed my presence as i took a few photographs of the colony building their nest just outside my house.

It was soon joined by another pair and together they perched on the tip of the closest leaf to my camera lens, straining to reach it!

Apart from the colour, this fantastic little caterpillar is identical to the brown coloured Tersa Sphinx Moth (Xylophanes Tersa).
